How to make a custom scratch card
- Choose “Message” in the panel.
- Type the text at the top of the card (“You have a surprise”, “For Grandma”…) and the message the scratch reveals, or tap one of the ideas.
- Try it: scratch the card to see how it looks and press “Cover it again”.
- Press “Create a link to send it” and send it on WhatsApp or anywhere else. Whoever opens it sees the covered card and scratches it with their finger.
The message travels inside the link itself, encoded so it can’t be read in it or in the chat preview, and it isn’t stored on any server: no account, nothing to download.
Ideas: gender reveal, pregnancy, wedding…
- Gender reveal: “It’s a girl!” or “It’s a boy!” for grandparents, aunts, uncles or friends who live far away.
- Pregnancy announcement: “You’re going to be a grandma!”, “You’re going to be an aunt!” or “We’re having a baby!”.
- Weddings: a proposal, or asking someone to be your bridesmaid, best man or witness.
- Gifts and surprise trips: “We’re going to Paris”, “Good for one dinner”, “Your present is in the wardrobe”.
- Birthdays, baby showers and parties: clues for a game, dares or the next prize.
To decide or hand out prizes
With “Random”, the card hides one of the options on your list, picked at random: what to eat, who pays, which movie to watch or whose turn it is.
Set “Cards” to 2 or more and you get a stack: each person tears off a card and scratches it. Each option comes up only once, like a prize; if there are more cards than options, the extra ones say “Try again”. It works for prizes in class or at a party, birthday gifts or a raffle with several prizes, passing the phone around. Below you can see how many cards are left and what has come up so far.
Is it a real scratch card?
It plays like one: you scratch the silver area with your finger or the mouse, the coating flakes off and, once you’ve scratched about half of it, the rest comes off by itself. If you can’t or don’t want to scratch, the “Scratch all” button does it for you.
What it isn’t: it isn’t a lottery and there’s no money involved. The prizes are whatever you write. The result is drawn before you scratch with the browser’s cryptographic generator, so every option has the same chance and scratching faster or slower changes nothing.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a custom scratch card online?
Choose “Message”, type the text at the top of the card and the message the scratch reveals, and press “Create a link to send it”. Whoever opens it will see the covered card and can scratch it.
Can I use it for a gender reveal?
Yes. Type “It’s a girl!” or “It’s a boy!”, create the link and send it to the grandparents, aunts, uncles or friends. They’ll find out by scratching it on their phone.
Can the message be seen without scratching?
It can’t be read in the link: it’s encoded, so it doesn’t show up in the chat or the preview. To see it you have to scratch or press “Scratch all”. It isn’t encryption: it’s there so the surprise isn’t spoiled, not to keep secrets.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
It’s free, with no sign-up and nothing to download. It works in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
Can you win money or real prizes?
No. It isn’t a lottery or a gambling game: there’s no money. The prizes are whatever you write, for a party, a class or a surprise.
How do I make several cards with prizes?
Set “Cards” to 2 or more. Each option on the list comes up only once and, if there are more cards than options, the extra ones say “Try again”. Below you can see how many are left.
Is the result fair?
Yes. What each card hides is drawn before you scratch with the browser’s cryptographic generator: every option has the same chance.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes: you scratch with your finger, just like a paper one. On a computer you scratch with the mouse, and “Expand” makes it big, for example on a screen or a projector.
